Rottweiler

Rottweiler
Inez's Kennel

Rot-viler, not weeler or wiler
These dogs were brought to Germany by invading Roman armies a couple of thousand years ago. They became popular around the town of Rottweil, and were used as herding and guard dogs by livestock traders and butchers. Nowadays the Rottweiler is put to work helping police, army and customs officers.

Coat: Short and thick, with black and tan markings.

Weight: over 60 kg.

Height: about 70 cm.

The Rottweiler is a large, active and intelligent working dog. It needs plenty of room and exercise. Regular grooming and occasional baths will take care of the coat. This dog loves to be part of the family, and can be a wonderful companion and guardian. This is a dominant breed, and not for inexperienced dog owners. It must be carefully raised, with much attention given to kind, firm training and socialising. In the wrong hands, or if neglected, it can be a serious problem.
