| Wooramun Jack was a full blooded aboriginal from the "Kalkadoon" tribe. He was a stockman on a property called "Terraba" Station, a property of 115,000 acres, approx 180 square miles, formerly part of "Mount Consindine" owned by Charles Williams. The property, owned by an uncle of Snow's, was situated in south west Queensland. The nearest town was Goondiwindi. Wooramun Jack and Charles Williams drove a mob from the Mt. Isa - Cloncurry district to Mt. Consindine. Jack never said much, as most full bloods did in those days, always pointed with his chin, rather than a hand. He had a wonderful eye for a horse and a dog and was heard to say very softly to the manager one day, pointing with his chin at one of the station dogs, "Him plurry good dog, boss, eh?" We adopted his name as our kennel prefix, hoping his judgement of dogs would somehow go with the name. Time will tell. |
| We started showing and breeding after our children had married and we had more time to spend on this
very interesting and time consuming "hobby" that we both enjoyed and could participate in together. We both showed our dogs very successfully for eighteen years until John was forced into an early retirement due to ill health. He is now a judge and has very close ties with the local kennel club as an active life member. His secretarial duties of the Australian Cattle Dog Social Club of North Queensland keep him busy, as does his position as editor of the club's newsletter. As in all partnerships there is always a worker. This description fits "Snow" adequately as she is the one who spends more time bathing and grooming, helping with whelpings and feedings, etc. of litters, along with general training and kennel duties. She it is who vets all potential buyers thoroughly before parting with any pups. Invariably we could not agree on which one pup of a litter to keep and run on, so we ended up most times keeping one each, usually bitches. We have always been very selective with our planned breedings and I suppose we have been lucky in having nature lend a helping hand along the way. No person can out do Mother Nature. No matter how you plan she will always have her way. All we humans can do is help a little and pray a lot. Genetics dictates variation. All we can do as breeders is alter a little, the odds in a game of chance. God willing, we will always have a "Bluey" around as long as we are able to look after one. |
